Here is my Captains Article for this week, as Aidan’s Blues will not be making one. Enjoy and I hope I can help.
Who will you be choosing???
Gary Ablett v Collingwood
Ave. v Collingwood: 96
Last 3 games v Collingwood: 126, 98, and 109
Last 3 games: 111, 150, and 125
Now the little master has been in some good form of late, averaging a whopping 140. You have to think about just chucking the big C on him, and not worrying about it for the remainder of the year. But there are some good options this week that you can choose instead of the proven performer that is GAJ.
Scott Pendlebury v Gold Coast
Ave. v Gold Coast: 123
Last 3 games v Gold Coast: 123, N/A and N/A
Last 3 games: 118, 147 and 108
Pendles is definitely a worthy contender; the Suns don’t really have any taggers besides Prestia, who I don’t think will go with him. There’s a chance for a big score from Pendles this week, will be interesting to see how many go with him as they’ll have to wait for Sunday night for their big captain’s score.
Joel Selwood v Greater Western Sydney
Ave. v GWS: N/A
Last 3 games v GWS: N/A
Last 3 games: 110, 140 and 109
Any premium playing the new side is always a good choice; Jelwood is high on my radar this week as my captain. With not many young giants playing shutdown type roles, the Cats skipper could have a big day out going head to head with someone, very tempting.
Brent Stanton v Melbourne
Ave. v Melbourne: 70
Last 3 games v Melbourne: 77, 76 and 80
Last 3 games: 72, 137 and 165
Ignore his bad record against the dees, the guys in superb form. Although Neeld loves the art of tagging, I don’t think they’ll stop Stanton. With the majority of the attention going to his skipper, Stants has enjoyed a fine start to the 2012 season.
Jobe Watson v Melbourne
Ave. v Melbourne: 80
Last 3 games v Melbourne:
Last 3 games: 108, 105 and 150
Same as his team-mate Stanton, Jobe could pull out a big score against the shattered Dees. We know how terrible Melbourne has been this year, and we know how well Watson plays against terrible teams. Although, I’m not sure if he’s score will be big enough to make you satisfied.
Josh P. Kennedy v Western Bulldogs
Ave. v Western Bulldogs: 72
Last 3 games v Western Bulldogs: 55, 67, 109
Last 3 games: 122, 132 and 101
Don’t take his past scores into account too much, but JPK could cop a very annoying Picken tag this week. He has been in some stellar form and could rip up the doggies’ midfield with a big score. Not a bad choice.
Steele Sidebottom v Gold Coast
Ave. v Gold Coast: 98
Last 3 games v Gold Coast: 98, N/A and N/A
Last 3 games: 142, 111 and 162
I know you may think it’s stupid, but Sidey as you Captain POD. Just ideas though as I don’t think there will many people picking him. He’s been in terrific form and another big game against the Suns seems likely.
Matthew Boyd v Sydney
Ave. v Sydney: 83
Last 3 games v Sydney: 100, 124 and 84
Last 3 games: 125, 137 and 137
Maybe not the best option, but he could still score nice, I know a few will be picking him. Not many can stop him when he’s at his best, hopefully doesn’t disappoint
Steve Johnson v Greater Western Sydney
Ave. v GWS: N/A
Last 3 games v GWS: N/A
Last 3 games: 146, 74 and 102
Stevie J’s an interesting one, he’s the one who loves to bully the bottom teams down @ Kardinia, but you don’t want him to go missing (which has happened before in 2012). If you’ve got him, you’ll have to consider him, who knows what he might do.
Dayne Beams v Gold Coast
Ave. v Gold Coast: N/A
Last 3 games v Gold Coast: N/A
Last 3 games: 175, 80, and 111
Yes another Collingwood player, but seriously, to think how high they can score if the Suns fail. Dayne Beams is no exception. He hasn’t played the Suns yet so we don’t know how well he’ll do. He’s maybe not captain worthy, but if you have him throw the VC tag on him. I’m sure you’ll be pleased when he pulls out a mammoth score.
My Top 5
1. Scott Pendlebury
2. Joel Selwood
3. Steele Sidebottom
4. Gary Ablett Jn
5. Dayne Beams
